Original Soundtrack Take Me Home Tonight Original Soundtrack Album Reviews, Songs & More

Grace played Eric Forman on the series but left before the final season to play Eddie Brock/Venom in Spider-Man 3. Director Sam Raimi has since confessed he had little love for the Venom character but he was pushed to include the fan-favorite villain. This accounts for Venom's lackluster treatment in the sequel, with Topher Grace feeling miscast in the role. "Take Me Home" appeared on the opening episode of the second season of the popular crime show Miami Vice, much like Collins' own "In the Air Tonight" appeared in the series premiere a year earlier.

Take Me Home Tonight isn't particularly original but it's better than its critical reputation suggests, which is mostly down to its cast. If nothing else, it's got a fantastic soundtrack to rock out to. Take Me Home Tonight is a teen comedy set in the 1980s starring Topher Grace, and here's every song from it's very retro soundtrack. In 2016, the extended mix was prominently used in a scene from the season 2 premiere episode of USA's television series Mr. Robot, in which an executive of the show's villainous corporation is blackmailed into publicly burning $5.9 million of his own company's money.

Steve Hochman, in a review of Can't Hold Back, felt that Money did Spector a disservice, particularly with the song's "characterless production," commenting, "where Phil Spector built his wall with style and grace, Money has erected a monolithic barrier." Alongside its album, "Take Me Home Tonight" helped revive Money's career after a period of declining sales. It also allowed Spector to resume her touring/recording career after several years of retirement.

It was released in the US in March 1986, only after Phil Collins appeared in the TV series Miami Vice. The song was also used in the series, appearing in the episode "The Prodigal Son" on September 27, 1985. Collins made his appearance on the show in the episode "Phil the Shill" on December 13, 1985.

The video was directed by Nick Morris and shot entirely in black and white at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nevada. It opens with Money alone with a metal ladder and a folding chair on an otherwise empty stage. He sings and plays an alto saxophone to an absent audience, while Ronnie Spector is seen in a make-up room and then walking through a backstage hallway to the arena floor during cutaways. Spector's face is not completely revealed until about three-quarters of the way through the video. The song reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 on November 15, 1986, and number one on the Album Rock Tracks chart; outside the U.S., it was a top 15 hit in Canada.

Take Me Home (Phil Collins song)

This song found its way into a key scene of the season 2 premiere episode of the TV series Mr. Robot, which takes on these same issues. The lead character in the episode suffers from blackouts, so the refrain, "'Cause I don't remember," makes sense. Padraig has been writing about film online since 2012, when a friend asked if he'd like to contribute the occasional review or feature to their site. A part-time hobby soon blossomed into a career when he discovered he really loved writing about movies, TV and video games; he even had a little bit of talent for it.

This song is about mental illness and those who suffer from it. The lyrics to the song made a lot of sense once I learned this. "I've been a prisoner all my life" is the confinement which the illness imposes on those who are ill.

Moreover, the song is about them releasing the mentally ill from state hospitals and institutions who wanted to go home. In a 2019 Australian interview, Phil Collins named this song as one of two he enjoys performing live the most. The video features Phil Collins singing a couple of lines from the song in various cities around the world, including London, Moscow, New York, Paris, Tokyo and Sydney.

In the meantime, Topher Grace went on to star in movies like Valentine's Day and Predators. Young Americans eventually became Take Me Home Tonight, named after the Eddie Money song of the same name. Sadly, despite a great cast and retro tone it wasn't greeted with warm reviews and was a box-office dud.
